Napa Wine Tasting

Image
The Sunday before my 25th birthday this year, 2014, my friend Julie surprised me by taking Tara and myself wine tasting up in the beautiful hills of Napa. We went to Paraduxx Winery and Frog Leap. The weather was gorgeous and she packed a meal full of cheeses, crackers, salami, strawberries, hummus, and pretzel sticks for the wine drinkers to munch on. I thought it was the smartest thing ever since of course, I know I would have the worst headache the size of Texas if I didn't eat anything. Of course silly girl forgot to eat breakfast on the way, so I was chowing on an apple I brought and couldn't wait to get up to the pretty area. The first winery, man named John, set us up outdoors in a picnic spot, reserved just for the three of us and in the sunshine it was the place to be. He brought out wine flights, different kinds to try and put their place cards by each one. I would say it was 2 flights ordered and six tastings each, so enough for us all, especially since Julie was lov...

Total Relaxation: Pre-birthday, Weekend of Total Bliss Trip: Campbell, Capitola, and Chaminade

Image
For my birthday this year, I wanted to have a weekend get-away that was simple, relaxing, and fun. My best friend Krysta's birthday was last month, so I figured we could join our birthday celebration and go on the trip together. We choose the town of Campbell for the first night. It's a nice little area with shops and restaurants and historic spots as well. We went to a place called Sonoma Chicken Coop for dinner. I had a mushroom, vegetable pasta, and she ordered delicious steak. There was live music from a cover band playing oldies songs and lots of people there. The food was reasonably priced and I ordered a beer with my meal. We walked to a little gelato place down the street and I ordered a coconut chip gelate and she had an expresso chip. The guy behind the counter was probably mid 40's, nice man, but rather unfocused at the time. When I went to pay, he charged me two receipts: one said .45 cents the other said $4 dollars. I looked down dumbfounded and annoyed but he ...

My funny valentine: Who loves you pretty baby?

February is a very short month, but I find myself during the first half of it, counting down until my birthday and hiding underneath a pillow or a book come Valentines day. True to my form, I am a romantic. Don't believe me? Okay, last week I finished the latest Nicholas Sparks novel, "The Longest Ride." I gripped the pages and could not put that book down until the last final page where yes as Sparks novels are known for, emotional stories, I cried. No shame there, I admit that was by choice to read a sappy story that would invoke tears, and enjoyed the whole thing. Lots of people talk about Valentines Day, who their date will be, or what their signficant other has planned for the event and meanwhile I am in a cloud, trying to speed up time to my birthday, which is three days later, hoping the hype will just go away. This is coming from the woman who wears lots of pinks, and reds, and purples all month long, and purchases cards for friends and family. Dear special someon...

Moms: i dont know how she does it

Image
Please note for those without mothers or ones who were not really there, think of yours as a guardian angel or maybe the mom/parent you could be someday; do not mean to offend. She is the cure for a busted knee on the playground, with a bandaid and hydrogen proxide. The person who snuggles your little face from the moment you leave her womb and even hugs you even when you tell her not to embarass you in front of your friends. She is the one who figured out all of your sly ways on how to get out or chores, hide the vegetables from under the table especially when you maybe theres no house pet anymore, or not do your homework. She is the sender of care packages in the mail, silly pictures and cards when you are away at school, the crazy lady who in the middle of the night contacts you to make sure you are either A) living and breathing or B) that you got home safe. She is the queen of the kitchen and makes recipes with love and a delicious smell that wafts through the house or into your h...

Colorado Trip 2014

Image
Hi All, I had a certain relative say these blogs are getting rather long, so comment on here or gmail.com, if you want to see changes lol, otherwise, sit back and enjoy. I recently just got back from Denver, Colorado. I flew out last thursday and took off work to go visit my friend Kristina, her husband Ray, and their daughter Jessie. They live in a small town outside Denver, in a cute little home . Inside note, I had not seen Kristina for almost five years. We met in fourth grade. I was this timid girl, who got picked on, and let me tell you, the day we met, she stuck up for me.  She told the people who teased me, to back off. To this day, learned so much from her, and love her so much. I couldn't wait to see her. When I got off the plane, I raced to the baggage claim and met them at the parking garage and practically jumped at their car (silly lady).   We went to Estes Lake (see pic) friday and relaxed at the house. Girls went shopping on Saturday, ...

2013 to 2014: Clean slate more changes, fun times!

2013 res As 2013 comes to a close, I wanted to reflect on all that has happened, but at this time, I slide into the end zone exhausted and out of bounds. This year has been challenging, eye opening, and remarkable in many ways. I came across a church that welcomed me in its place at a moment when I most needed a community! fair oaks presby brought me a bible study group of ladies and joy. i got in a car accident in feb, same month went sky diving, winery hopping, and later all different things. Thisyear was a rough one for my family and we hope and pray next year brings good tidings and memories; may the storm be over for us all, but help us see how much it makes us stronger and grateful of what we have done to make it through as a family, love each other no matter what. There were other good things though, max and james played well for water polo and working away at school, James will graduate in May and Paul from law school. For me this year has brought lessons and much learning in ...

A Joyful Heart Against All Odds : Deciphering the say it out loud moments

My eyes turn green when I cry..... Some say it's a pretty color, but still some tell me they would rather they saw my brown eyed sparkle :). I wonder what makes a sparkle, or a joy that a person can have; even if they lose a sporting event, or have a rough day,  lose something important, are made fun of, hurt, or filled with anger, the joy makes its way to our central being. Maybe it's the fake-it-till-you-make-it factor; of if you just pretend you are happy you will be. (actually works believe me! even if smiling through the tears or on the verge of yelling, or whatever you are feeling). Nothing is as bad as it really seems, well it is at the time, I am certain. I think it could be the romantic in me or the hope, where in the movie the guy or girl races to beat time or a change in fate to try to get to their person in time, to tell them how much they love them them; my latest, was when Jackson Avery from Grey's Anatomy (spoiler alert!) stood up at April Kepner's weddin...
