Making a judgment call, ch ch ch changes, and what it means to be a friend

After college graduation, which seems a bit ago now, you learn there are things you cannot do anymore. You learn that decisions must be made. Like, should I go out tonight and drink even though I have been for the last few nights, or gee, I need to catch up on sleep, and 2am out at the club isn't really going to do it for me anymore. As you acquire more job experience or find your sleep schedule changing to where you have somewhere to be every morning and can't risk the whole night owl gamble anymore. Sooner or later you have a responsibility. You have a responsibility to your employer and the people  and or animals at home in whom you are taking care of.  Things sometimes slip under the table, we want a few drinks to let off steam and make ourselves forget what is going on or that things are stressful. In college I used to think it would actually fix my problems. Here's the thing. They will still be there in the morning as much as we try to hide them. As adults we hav...

Violence in the world, the appearance of having feelings, all we can do is love

The terrorist attack at the Orlando nightclub has left me saddened and speechless. This event now marks the biggest shooting in the U.S.; as if we needed a reminder. My heart breaks for those families and my prayers go out to them at this time. And for what? The LGBT community is on high alert and this hatred is so wrong. I shudder as I made the mistake of reading some of the kid’s text messages before they were gone forever. It’s hard to ignore on a slow day at work and its right there in front of your face reminding you of how sad this truly is. All the violence in this world day after day is exhausting. Although I do not agree with some of Obama’s views and may not support him as a president, it has got to be difficult to get up there to address a public in the aftermath of any tragedy. We sit there and we bash him as a president. A president has only so much time during his candidacy to address and accomplish certain things. A president can’t do all that he said he would d...

Innsbruck Austria and a lil ish of Zurich Switzerland

Austria Arrived by bus from Munich and was swift and easy. My hotel was outside the city, so I had to take taxis because the bus schedule turned out to be more complicated than I hoped. The hotel itself was awesome. Even though you had to pay for breakfast, the whole Mom and Pop owned feel was comforting, their staff welcoming and helpful. The view of the mountains from my bedroom, simply magical and breathtaking. I walked around old town with my suitcase taking pictures of the Golden Roof where I later saw a pole vaulting event. The hotel has old fashioned elevators take you take and open doors when you reach your floor with old fashioned keys and doors.  When you ate breakfast you can see the Alps and the hills from the windows and it is spectacular. I walked around what is called Walther Park. I bought a delicious sandwich for late lunch at ebb coffee shop and juice to go. I people watched and then went back to my hotel despite their bar and restaurant being closed. Hot a...
Munich The next and last stop with the tour group was munich. When you are on vacation you say im on holiday.  You can take the S bahn train and U bahn trains and trans and buses to inner city. I like to dine alone and ppl watch when I travel even if on tours. We saw the monkey tower which is the royal palace area for King Ludwig. Then w we went to pale yellow building in town center for wolfgang amadeus mozarts house. Hofbrauhaus was amazing, it is basically like disneyland for beer.  If you raise your hand and salute hitler anywhere in munich its an automatic arrest and 500 dollar fine! It is a Federal crime to deny the holocaust. I went on a bike tour and was the Butt babe, rear gunner, back lead for the group since I biked the best apparently....weird.  We went to the second largest/biggest bier garten in the world. I tried homemade Muesli - type of cereal and oats with yogurt mixture. The hotel Novatel was plush and comfortable.  Free cookies and fruit...

Prague

Prague is a beautiful city! It is very crowded with tourists however, so if crowds are not your thing, do not go. The Charles Bridge is really something to see, and if you get to visit Prague Castle, the view and the changing of the guards will truly be a highlight. If not the clock tower and the clock changing is another marvel. There is a restaurant that serves beer on trains and has a train system thorough that brings them to your table! Be aware, though, Czechs do not like separate checks! Very challenging and frustrating with large groups. We went to Prague Castle and also stopped at the statue of a boy. The sunsets are incredible and the riviera surrounding, breathtaking. They have a swirl ice cream dessert, starts with a Trindek, I think. The chocolate goes at the bottom, then ice cream, then topping. The cone is sugared and cinnamon and they make it right in front of you. You cannot refuse lol. We went to a Klavakor lunch place and I had a good veggie grilled sandwich. We beer...

Berlin

We arrived at different times at he airport and met up at a meeting spot in the airport after passing border/passport control to get our stamp. After two hours of chatting, greeting a bit, and waiting for the first group, we then piled onto a small limo bus to take us to the Generator Hostel in Berlin which has a bar, cafe, and breakfast daily. We had 4 room-mates to a room, and got together by assigned person per room. Two were married, and two were together so they booked upstairs from us instead. Berlin is an eclectic city full of history, and lots of fervour from its locals. My second day there I cam down with the stomach flu and sadly it went everywhere. So embarrassing! I cried because it was miserable. I didn't miss anything because luckily the first day, we did a bus ride, and didn't do too much. I continuously got worse and used the free day to rest. The sounds at night did make it difficult to sleep, but I got through it. We took a river cruise and saw the city from...

Facebook, what's the brain say, and bring it on chump

They tell you to be completely nonchalant, and focus on more important goals like a house, or a hot job, or family, etc. What they don't tell you, is that midway through your 20's you experience this semi panic (maybe it's just me) mode of am I doing everything I need and want to do? Believe me, having a disruptive downstairs neighbor doesn't help peace of mind or sleep prior to leaving for a trip. In fact, it heightens anxiety for me, when I think about smaller problems and issues that really aren't anything until they are, and then I am sleepless, which makes my cognitive thinking go a tad lower. Ah anxiety attacks are so fun, said no one ever. I have been pushing myself for May is Bike Month and managed to log 100 plus miles in the first week and my competitive spirit showed up when I wanted to compete with others. After an embarrassing ride on the trail, also known as I didn't eat enough and my bike was off kilter, I came home, wiped out, completely. I mean,...
