Personal Hygiene and Workplace Etiquette

I witnessed the worst lack of hyigene there is the other day. This individual had not washed their hair in weeks, their teeth were super yellow, and their breath wreaked of cigarettes. This person was going to the gym! If they were homeless it would be seen completely differently. Nobody wants to come across a foul smelling person, B.O. or no, that is just no bueno. I dislike when I see men with sagging pants or torn shirts, it's not attractive guys, just saying. The girls with the short skirts, or ass and boobies hanging out, you aren't fooling anyone but yourself, quit trying so hard. Some people in the workplace reuse tissues five or six times after the gunk dries out. Um tmi, and that's nasty! I have to say I have been guilty of not shaving my legs during the winter, oh chill out, no one can see em if they are in pants and leggings and tights most of the time then. Such a hassle, and saves razors, okay not the same as saving trees, but still. I had to start keeping a picker in my desk drawer for after lunch. Sure, it sounds pretty weird until you become that one employee with food in your teeth at an important meeting. Embarassing. Did I mention it was spinach tortellini with garlic?!
Nightmare. I brought a toothbrush, spare travel one just in case. Not trying to impress anyone, but a profesional might want to be prepared for anything, who knows they might have the fire brigade come and I will have fresh breath. hahah okay, okay, but really it's always smart to be clean and healthy especially when making impressions too.
Ah workplace etiquette is a tough one. I struggle with this baby all the time because I often feel like I still want to be goofy and have a good time with my coworkers. I forget however, some Johnny on the spot could be listening or watching. Last week, I managed to get a warning for sitting in a coworkers cube joking about the movie Frozen, and how most guys hate the song 'Let it go." Me, having not the best singing voice, may or may not have launched into a short rendition of bits and pieces of the song. So, said JOhnny told my data management lead and I was informed if I sing again that I will be in trouble. In Aerospace, it's not fun and games, sure we can be funny, but there is a time and a place. However, that being said, I sit near a few ballasticians downstairs at work, and they are the most obnoxious, boisterous, group of men, I've ever met. Do I contribute to the commotion okay maybe so, but things such as: throwing paper airplanes over the wall, screechy erase board wiping, burping, loud noises, seem to be among the norms down here. Not to say, I am making an exception, but I have been witness to outrageous behavior, which is actually not acceptable here. Had security caught them, or maybe their boss, it would be a warning for sure, but next time, they probably wouldn't be so nice. I have to adhere to the dress code that even though some people wear jeans on Fridays, I still wear dress clothes, because I often have customer meetings to go to. This being my first real time job, I am lucky to have a mentor to teach me so much about the big leagues, if she wasn't around, it might be a whole different ball game. Take me out to the ball... (what?) just kidding ;)! Remember, wash your hands, wipe your feet on the mat, and maybe keep your mouth shut so the bugs don't fly in.
