Life Goal Checkoff: Owning my own place

I searched everywhere for an apartment to call my own. I went to twenty different places with my father till my feet were dragging and my energy was lagging. I took my father to lunch because he helped me with the hunt and we finally came upon on awesome find. I won't say where I live on here but most of you who know me and aren't strangers, ha, know what I now call my home. I went last week to go sign the papers and check the spot out to make sure I knew what I was getting into. The woman gave me the keys and my first load of stuff was in my car waiting outside. I walked over to the apartment number just past the office with my hands quivering in excitement and nervousness. I went up the stairs and opened the door with gusto like a soldier leads his troops to battle, in a less serious manner though. I could not believe it. The place was comfy, cozy, quiet, and just the answer to my prayers of a place to move into. My friend Alex helped me move all of my things; it took us about three trips to move all of my belongings, and it was done really quickly. My first night staying and I received the best nights sleep in a long time. No screaming cats, no loud pool or air conditioning pumps, I was free to drift off and relax. I woke up feeling refreshed and went into the kitchen, made coffee and felt right at ease. This is my own place! That weekend I acquired household items from my parents, a beautiful table from my friend Megan and gave her my grandma's desk. At first I was very sad to see such a special joy of furniture leave my side, but I knew Megan would take great care of it and it was her dream to have a desk just like it. I felt great for acts of service and instantly felt blessed that someone I very much trusted was going to own it. I cannot wait to see what pictures she will put on it and that her girls will get to see it. I spent the entirety of the next day off from work unpacking and shopping for food, and my parents came by for dinner one of the nights. Tonight my dad set up an entire entertainment center that he picked up from Best Buy that I purchased. I made him dinner and we spent time listening to tunes on pandora from the tv and he discussed how I might be able to get a good couch in here to have all of my friends and family over. My heart was so full of happiness I just smiled in response. This spot is really neat and God blessed me with such an opportunity. My neighbors are rather interesting, but I am sure you would get that anywhere. One woman who lives downstairs is 90 ! I learned this all from talking to my neighbors across from me and I have to say I even like the pool that this complex has. The thing is, I am grateful inside and out, but sincerely wish my grandmother could see all of this. This was always a life goal to own my own place and having it come true is surreal. When a goal comes together after such a long trip, it was for a reason and is that much more rewarding when it is reached. My commute time to work takes 5mns, very convenient. People are not forever, but a place just might be. As that little saying goes : home is where the heart is.
