Mortifying 101: Work Incidents/Accidents Are Always Recorded
Someone once told me that if something happens to you or about you, or near you, write about it. I started a normal everyday workday with the whole mindset that I would get some work done and then head to the gym. Everything was going quite well till 3pm rolled around. A coworker stopped by to talk to me about last weekend. The guy inadvertently sat on my desk.....okay granted it would be like leaning against a structure, but still major annoying and I have a chair for a reason in my office. He chatted away and then all of a sudden the desk came off it's hinges and out flew two heavy computer monitors, a phone and its jacks and headset, a large printer and the desk shelf itself... it happened so fast I didn't have time to pull back. The whole set of it landed on my right foot. I went oh shiz... yes I managed a non cuss word.... miracle people... miracle. bit my fist and groaned in pain. I looked down and it was purple! The loud thud caused my office mate to come over and then of course others to come by. Soon I had a crowd... (fyi this did nothing for my onset embarrassment) and mortification to follow. The upstairs Program Administrator called 911... (are you kidding me?!). Earlier this morning at our
site, there was an explosion out in the manufacturing test area, (don't believe me, it's on the news), a poor guy got burned and is in the hospital :(, prayers out to his family. Anyways, so these same fire department men came all the way out to my building to see a girl with a hurt toe. No offense, nothing to see, it was awful! granted two of them were pretty cute... but I just wanted everyone to leave me be. So the guy who sat at my desk was still shocked, which he should be the embarassed one... and they brought my boss, my program manager, my supervisor, and some of my team around to the scene. At this point, I just want to curl up and die. And of course you have the busy bodies who want to know what's going on and would like to tell the world that so-and-so is hurt.... oh honestly leave me alone. After telling the workers I can handle it, and I will be alright (which they still have to report it)... they left and took (yes wait for it...... a stretcher?!)... with them. I had a strong guy help me to the elevator and then I hobbled out to my car with my supervisor(who by the way was worried like crazy and was scolding me for no doctor support) and my father phone call was no bueno either. All in all, a moment to go down in the books, and in lots of pain, headed home, tried driving with my left foot. I got home to ice it, and it sure hurts. I hated the whole thing and sometimes I wonder if God is up there with a lightning bolt going "Okay Vigeant, I didn't like your behavior last week so, I'm teaching ya some tough skin this week... (KIDDING). Tomorrow will be interesting as I have to use my laptop to work from where I am... and to try and ward off all the attention... not what I needed at all, but I can say I learned something... kick out idiot desk squatters and develop more of a tough skin as professional worker, say no not sure?.. .no, but really tomorrow is another day... and if people want to talk.....let them, God knows me best and loves me no matter what. For now, this is Miss Moxie signing off to grab some more ice for the foot... good night!
