Oregon Trip 2014
I went to Oregon last weekend for five days. It was the longest trip I have taken. I visited some friends from college, Jason and Ashley, who are engaged. I met them through a friend named Jeremy. Ashley and Jason toured me around town, Hillsboro and his dad let us come over for some wine and food. The town of Hillsboro is beautiful. I happen to really love the Northwest: Washington and Oregon and upper parts of Sierras of Nevada and California. The weather was in the 70s and ideal for me to get away from heat city in Sacramento! I walked around their Civic Center, got to go to a place called the Venetian, which was delicious. Ashley and I and Jason's dad went to Naked Winery and a brewery called Full Sail, both awesome. I won't spoil it, I think you should google it or go there, worth the time and the money, such a great area too. Jason and I went to downtown Portland. We took the tram aka the max into the city and had a whole day for touring. He took me to VooDoo Doughnuts. Let me be the first to tell you : not worth the wait! We waited an hr and 15mns, but the donuts were really good! So, if you can stand for awhile, go for it, otherwise Dunk n Donuts and Donut Stop in Folsom are great without the tourist crazy. We went to the Chinese Gardens which were exquisite and historically renowned. We stopped at Powell's Books and that spot tops Borders and Barnes and Noble in my opinion, but is really crowded. I got to see the street market and farmers market and people watch and look out over Columbia River. We went t Kel's Irish Pub for dinner, and I had a pasty special, full of meat and veggies and of course ordered a Guinness and Jason had bangers and mash (hard to explain, but sausages, mashed taters, and more irish type items). They have a ceiling filled with dollar bills in shape of cranes in a way and 50 cents inside and these each time thrown up are collected and go to charities, really neat way to give back the owner said. We took the tram back and the day before I went to the Renaissance Fair. I got arrested for indecent exposure. Calm down! it was all part of the fun and the play acting by a performer because I was showing my pretty little ankles he said. I laughed and turned red and he issued the citation and told me to stand still while rubbing my tummy and head. Everyone took pictures and pointed, pretty goofy. they had jousting, good beer and cider, roasted nuts, circus performers with ropes and rings in the air, singing, dancing, armor wear shops, welding, knife throwing, which I did and got one on the board. It was a fun day then too. I went to the Tillamook Cheese factory for a little bit on Monday and toured the Oregon coast and walked up and down the beach. My last nite we had a BBQ and Jason's dad invited the neighbor friends over. We had wine, sat by the fire, relaxed, talked. Ashley also beginning of the weekend asked me to be a brides maid in her wedding. I am so excited! I even got to try out my first rental car; a Ford Fiesta, got lost, but the car was nice and drove well and worked out every morning at the 24 hr down 9mns from their house. All in all, not to make this super lengthy, it was an amazing weekend, worth taking, worth having and reminding me that this job I am at let me do this! Until next adventure, Moxie home safe.... and slightly sleepy.
