Ransacked Vehicle Experience : Make Copies and Better Safe than Sorry
Last week, before I went on my trip to Oregon my car was ransacked or robbed rather. I had crochet needles, a crochet bag and materials with an almost finished scarf, a gym bag with sweaty clothes, old shoes, and an old outdated global positioning system (GPS), a donation bag full of old clothes, an iPhone car charger and my work badge. They stole it all, including jumper cables, spare tire jack and threw my insurance paper stuff everywhere. The ironic thing was the night before I was going to leave, I debated bringing all of this stuff in. I cannot go back, and sadly didn't check to see if my car was locked at the complex and my stuff was stolen because it was unlocked. I discovered all of this mess in the early morning and they left grocery bags old ones, and a lint roller and my car reg. I quickly regrouped amid a moment of feeling sad and also a tad frustrated to get to my parents to bring me a gps lovingly and even drive me to the airport. I wasn't in a state to drive, but I really learned my lesson. I am not writing this to complain or to whine as I consider myself very lucky to not lost anything of super value. As all of the above, can be replaced. I thanked God for my safety, but also that he protected me during that time and my car wasn't damaged. My heart stopped for a moment realizing that even though those items weren't important they were of value to me, and the gym bag my mother bought for me. However, after settling in and on the way to the airport my mother helped me regain a positive attitude. I finished a book called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rueben. Call me crazy, but it came at the perfect time to be able to learn how to let go, and not focus on all of the negatives, which I wanted to do. I recommend this book, it didn't feel like a self help book to me at all. I bought new yarn and started a new skein for the crochet and will get some workout shoes later on. I ended up having a great trip and look at this as a sign that nothing goes they way we want, and often these things in life, setbacks or mishaps, don't define us by any means, just teaches us to be more aware. I heard from a friend he got all of his luggage stolen one time in Europe and it really made me think, that although it was terrible, maybe that thief has some clothes to wear, and hopefully they found what they wanted! I made it to the airport and ended up having an awesome trip including going to a winery after I got settled at my friends' place. This to everyone is a message. Take care of your things, don't put anything in plain sight, make copies of registration and insurance information, take it out into the house at the end of the night, check your doors make sure car is locked. You cannot trust a clicker to be sure. I called my company where I work, and they deactivated the old badge immediately and processed a new one for when I come in tomorrow and I made sure to get everything in order and ducks in a row. It was a hassle, but better to do as soon as it happens rather than later. I reported it to my apartment complex, (fyi don't trust them, even if they say, 'oh this is rare') robbery can happen anywhere. I was again lucky to have a not-so-nice-new-vehicle, expensive things, etc. But, this will teach me to take care of anything in my apartment now as well too. It's better to be safe than sorry everyone!
