Crockpot genius meals, spinach, and other miscellaneous musings
Crockpot invention is pure gold. I think people or myself rather was missing out big time until now. All the while, trying to craft a meal that takes hours, getting stressed if it turns out half assed, or bummed when it's not like the picture. Oh my gosh, I cannot tell you how many times I have looked at a recipe and thought, oh yeah baby, I got this. Let me put this together and we can be set no problem. Little do I know, I am not Martha Stewart and sincerely wish some days I did have the time to make such joy in a kitchen. I create the joy based on my cravings and my mood. The crockpot lets me throw together a whole meal. Whether it be steak, asparagus and potatoes, or spaghetti and meatballs, it's a God send. I work a lot and hardly have time to come up with something extravagant. If I do, I skipped the gym in order to try to come up with something ultimately clever.
My go to's for hosting bible study are : chips and salsa, cats cookies from Trader Joes and Speculoos chocolate swirl dip. I throw in a few added bakes or whatever I can find that I haven't already devoured in one sitting. Crockpot's for one do get complicated, because food doesn't last very long unless preserved and covered in an airtight container.
Spinach is soo good for you and so good for when you work out more than four or five times a week and need generous amounts of missing iron in your diet. I put it in my pasta, in my rice, in my soup, and in smoothies. It's very good. However, soggy, dated, rank spinach is nasty. I mean I have tried not to waste it in smoothies to ignore the fact that it looks like sheer green death. I mean even the trash can wouldn't want it, it's that bad! I try to use it up as fast as possible before it gets to that point.
I understand that every person in the complex has to have a parking spot and it's assigned when they get their place. I have been praying and waiting on one closer to my door, because mine is around the corner. I realize don't complain and go with what you have, you ungrateful whiner you. But get this. One of my neighbors, a new guy, puts his brand new motorcycle in one of the closer spots, and then parks his nice car around the car. Some nights he parks them both in the near spot, the bike goes first then the car behind, to protect. It seems completely like a great idea except for the rule of having one space for 'one vehicle' rule. Fine, fine, I won't play police, but it is sincerely frustrating for those of us, who are not (coughs) male and have cars all the way around the corner. In the dark, it's pretty shady. Like clockwork, doesn't matter what time, this creepy old man stands outside and lights a cigarette as I walk up my steps. I have to admit, suck it up Moxie you aren't in the ghetto, but I turn a little white on my way in. I will one day get a dog who I won't mind parading around the place to feel just a wee bit safer. Doesn't matter where ya live, suns out, guns out. If I walk tall, maybe they will just go away.
I like cleaning anything and everything, it gives me great pleasure in knowing I have accomplished something whether small or big, and to know I won't have to stare at the uncleanliness of it for very long. However, get busy and most of that falls on the wayside. Discovered my own blinds in my apartment needed some attencionies (yes I made that up) and took a rag and attacked them. Blinds are a gift when trying to get a good night's sleep, or so that people don't look in. Naturally. Poor bathroom, the mirror has a Picasso painting approach, and the shower pleaded : comet please.
Amongst all the different off the wall topics of the night, I will lastly address friendships. I love to please and help people. I think things change in the workplace with friends. You have to ask for memos, items, work docs, etc from people who you just hung out with the other day. Sometimes, you have to be a little bit relentless to get what you need done. It can be challenging and people often snap back or call you stupid, or just tell you they don't get what you are saying, or flat out refuse to do it. Maybe they don't even work in your department and it's difficult for them to see how much you need their help to get a task finished and that they are part of the process. Friends can become acquaintances and things began to change. I think too, that we initially set out to make new friends, but the result is only a few people we consider our colleagues and true friends post work hours. After the office move, I noticed that as we get busier it's harder to keep up with certain people unless you do in fact work with them on a similar project or see them on a regular basis. Fact of life and completely true.
Setting a boundary on what you can and can't control, and what you are willing to take on to help others is a learning curve. Yesterday, I spent the whole day on a task I figured was going well for someone who had asked my team lead for assistance. Today, it was the pits to hear, not only was I incompetent, but that the person would take it from here. In other words, pick up where I left off and didn't need the help after all the previous week and that whole day yesterday spent on it. I wanted to rip my hair out. I spoke with a friend, and after felt better that some people can be abrasive and not want to work with you or maybe anyone for that matter. Not my problem and nor should it be anyone elses. I think tomorrow if I am asked, I won't be doing too much for that person in the future. Boundary set! yay! Now to find out where the last carmel delight cookie is!
