#34 Bucket List : Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, and misc thoughts

Image
Az There were people on the bus from all over world. Met an Airforce guy with his wife both super nice helped me out when my cell had no battery on the way back to Vegas and we had fun chats. Indian gal named  Pooja chatted with me the whole time. She said her name means prayer. First stop was Hoover Dam, which was such an engineering marvel and so cool to see. After our four hour drive to AZ; thank god for movies and music. We stopped at the 7000 ft mather pt first and walked down to the canyon to take pictures. It was cold, rainy, and super windy. The view was so incredible I loved it.  Bright Angel lodge spot and viewpoint came after, and it was gorgeous. Cold windy became a norm and it became dark fast. The light from the canyon faded but it was almost ominous and surreal. I felt like a dot on a map, a small pawn on a chessboard, tiny compared to this amazing wonder and structure of beauty. I had pilsner and fries and met an older couple from cocoa beach florida ro...

#87 Bucket List : Vegas

Image
Arrived in the morning and was super stoked to meet Abby at Terminal 3. We packed so much into the day. After we met her friend Kristin we went to Cheesecake Factory, stores, Caesar's palace, walked a lot and just overall had a good time. Later recharged then I met up with my UNR friends Jeremy and Katie. We went to the Chandelier bar which has three floors and a Hole in wall pizza place so rad"secret pizza" in cosmopolitan at vegas. Jeremy said no touching railings(disgusting in LV) lol what did i do I touched them lol.   We also went to the fountain show outside the Bellagio. It was spectacular. Vending machines with cupcake atms are pretty much a staple here which is a win win. Emergency footwear atms for chics who need shoes who are more comfortable was hilarious to come across. Margaritaville was so yumo. Thunder from down under vip status was unbelievable. Afterwards we went to an Irish Bar and listened to awesome old folklore music and tunes we requested. We...

Rent bogusness, waves of changes, transition and battle scars

My apartment complex jacked up their rental prices, so to avoid paying an enomormous amount especially during the holidays and work through all the crazy, I chose move out by Dec 1st. Little did I know, that meant, a day of rallying, packing, two injured knees, a busted chin, crying, packing, hauling, moving, and working with my parents and two friends to get stuff out. I had so much mixed emotions. I had been with Hazel Ranch 4 years and got so used to my routines and plans, and living close to work and my friends. It was a world I took for granted especially being close to FOPC church. Yesterday I went through it all in a span of 24hrs and today I still feel it. I feel the change of living in a bedroom rather than a whole space to myself. Most of my neighbors on my group end were awesome. One person on the other side of the 300s was my only sadness, she was mean to me and talked smack and I could hear it through the wall. I did have a lot of sleepless nights and there was a lot to ...

Adventure list checkoff #3: Crest Theater

Image
Last weekend I went to downtown Sacramento to the Crest Theater to see Singing in the Rain on the big screen. They had old classic chandeliers, old seats, and concert was originally opened in 1912 and had some remodels in the 50s and the 60's over the years. It used to be used as a palace and in the 1980's was closed for a time while they debated refurbishing until 1995 when the decision was made to restore the place to it's glory and leaving a lot of the auditorium's original flair. The place sold beer and wine and even had one small ticket office out front just like from way back when. We got the standard old popcorn designed containers, the popcorn tasted different! I went with my friends Todd, Jenny, Sarah, Renee, and Karin. The movie is a classic favorite of mine so it was nice to have it up front as well. There weren't much rules, you could yell and clap, and sing, and dance along during the film. The program slide and projector manager came out before the...

Office Move, Spending Money, The importance of staying connected

Image
I have been dreading this office move from the moment I found out last week. I truly have enjoyed the people I sit near. You become so accustomed to your morning routine and who you talk to. I always eat breakfast with the Pete and Steve and then I walk over to 20019 to visit with the ballistics group and middle bay folks. I have a better start to my day that way and I feel like I am not in jail lol and I have colleagues with me during these interesting times. We are lucky to have one another even if we sometimes disagree or banter too much.   Spending money on things I put off or maybe do not need to spend. I have been going to the cafe a lot lately. I think simply too because I packed all of my breakfast items into my boxes for the office move. I was too lazy to pull them apart again and again to get to my things. It seemed a waste of effort to do if it would mess with the flow. Yes, it meant pulling out my wallet to spend on the food, but sometimes you have to do what you gott...

Celiac disease gluten free and Halloween

Image
I found out a weekend or two back, my sister like my friend Kayla from college has celiac disease. Actually it has become more common amongst some of my friends. I fear I may have it myself but not sure yet. I have no done tests and refuse to give up drinking beer and eating grilled cheese. However, I am lactose intolerant, go figure. I am learning more about it and am determined that whenever my friends who have it visit, I have food that they can have. It really is no fun to be surrounded by friends who all eat something you want, but can't and shouldn't have. I noticed too that it affects your gut a lot and your stomach will make sounds. Mine does when I have too much dairy, caffeine, or something super spicy. A friend said it might be leaky gut, but I also think it can be balanced if I drink water and not eat those foods all the time and balance my diet out.  This year I was Dorothy for Halloween and Mia as Toto. I also learned this year some of my friends do not partic...

There is no reason to hide

Image
I walked out of the movie and spot on felt like wham. The director had my attention and there was something to be said about the way Affleck portrayed his character in that movie. The anger, the fear, the sadness, and the loneliness. At first you sit in your chair wondering why in the hell did I choose to watch this, and who on earth recommended it, but you continue to watch and you are glad you did. I cannot give the details away, but I recommend you see it for yourself, The Accountant. Doctors want to understand, people want to run, and then psychiatrists want to label. I love a key quote from that movie “I do not believe in labels.” Labels are given by society of what someone has, or what someone is because of the way they behave. They refer to them as well he/she is different. I wanted to hate that phrase, but slowly I am seeing I appreciate it. I am different.  I change my sense of directions and choices at the drop of a hat. I don’t like something I either respond heavily...

Underneath it all, here you are again

I love writing. Seriously love it. You can put blah blah on paper and write your deepest thoughts, concerns, worries, dreams, hopes, rants etc. Thursday, I had two sips of wine and got called into work. I did some unnecessary ranting and cursing on my drive in and complained to my few closest friends, but all the while knowing this wouldn’t take away that I still had a task to do. When urgent submitting come in, my job is to submit them regardless of where I am, schedule, location etc. I guess that is why it is a good paying job. The job I do is at a desk all day managing programs and analyzing data. It is easy to say that after almost coming up on five years, I was and am slightly bored. The grass is of course not always greener on the other side. After going to dinner with my best friend Krysta Tuesday night, I realized what she said about going back to school resonated with me. I wanted to learn again. I decided to apply to Folsom Lake College for Early Childhood Education, maybe g...

What on Earth is this Anymore

Image
When did love become such a challenge and judgement are regular norm and theme of the day? I mean this is absurd. After, so many tries of online dating, it is just not for me. I don't need the same love my parents have, or my aunt and uncle, but it would be nice to have one that lasts and doesn't end in divorce. Who am I kidding? I mean I live in a world where divorce is the norm, and people fight all the time, and nothing is forever. I returned home from an akward date yesterday and not even sure I knew what I had just done. No wait I do. I drove an hour there and back to see this guy who is in a wheel chair. I thought it would be cool since hey, don't mind the chair, but 31 without a job, and has a comic backpack and wants to get gauges threw me off. The entire time I sat on the park bench thinking to myself, this guy does not care about himself enough at all. He doesn't take care of himself, hence no longer shaving his face, his legs need lotion badly, and his worl...

Barcelona

Image
Barcelona Lots of color and light and joy here. The people like their late nights it seems. I Practiced spanish with locals. I went Sup paddle boarding again (done before) a blast; there was one cute instructor who every girl seemed to love. Subways here are much cleaner and walking the wharf and catching sunset with ice cream was super nice. Sitges Beach was great, lots of peddlers selling things though, crowded too, and people have to be okay with it being a beach where some choose to be nude. Lil weird at first. Parc Guell was gorgeous, tad hot out when we went.  Tapas the other day there were delicious with sangria and at beach puttinh our toes in the sand was a must. Bike tour we had was such fun as well. I think people enjoyed that option as well. I felt like as a tour group we had more time in Barcelona and the vibes of the place relaxed us all. In the hostel bar three guys approached a friend and myself, clearly drunk, and I normally would have been starry eyed and impr...

Paris 2016

Image
Paris Firemen, salami, cheese wine by river started off our first nite in Paris. The Eiffel tower lights show and level up ticket surprise via our tour director was spectacular and seine river cruise and up tower second level was unbelieveable and Eirini our tour director hooked us up with such a cool sight and evening for second night. The museum with the Louve was huge and so much to see so little time. I would say we were in there an hr and a half before accepting it would take a super long time to see everything that day. Tullier gardens, and serbian tour guide was nice to experience and learn from. Boris was funny and his conversations and discussions were relative and welcomed. Went to a cabaret show, with topless dancers and out of this world performances, amazing gourmet food. They were all flashy, well trained, incredible performances, awesome parisian food, singing on stage and dancers. Luxembourg gardens was a stop for Krysta and I at one point. Sat in the fountain type ...

London

Image
London town. I arrived on Tues noon london time and got to take underground subway to Wombats Hostel. wound up lost in town and took a cab and found my hostel. It wad there that I met Henry from Dresden( went there in May) and  Andrew and Dylan from silicon valley ca. I met Ryan from Sydney Australia later on the next day and he is an amazing photographer. I chose to purchase the london pass 3 day pass to see as much as I can for 96 pounds( london dollars) and I hit the ground running. We played  jenga at the indoor bar with free drinks and there was a kitchen  if u needed to cook and a balcony and outdoor area with hammocks. All chill atmosphere for my first stop and stay before meeting my tour group. Taking the subway station in different countries is always an experience. Saw a guy playsaxophone song to Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" at underground subway. I found myself seeing so many sights and started my walking and touring 8am time frame to cover more ground...

I only like you when....the idea of adulting... and other musings

Image
But really though this is ridiculous. Liking someone conditionally is the same thing is as saying you will vote for Trump and you support Hilary. In other words, it's a complete lack of respect. Like someone for who they are, faults and all. Liking someone most of the time, just means you can't handle their other sides. What about your other sides. I know for myself if I haven't eaten dinner, lunch or whatever, I can be a real rotten bitch. However, I know that as a pocket reminder, so I carry snacks around, or quickly find food. No one likes to be hungry. I heard someone tell me the other day that I do a lot complaining. I smiled. Sure they are right. We do, we naturally complain about things. Here's my response though. I am not walking around acting like Eeyore; who yes is pretty much the Negative Norbert of well life. We get depressed and stressed and my coworkers often say are you ever not going to be this way. (laughs). If I wasn't, this work that I needed to...

Jackiemaedit : The artist unleashed

Image
For years, my sister growing up had a creative talent that not many people have. A talent so neat, our family forgot about just how good. Her talent was and is, art. She can take a blank canvas and turn it into a masterpiece over night. She uses this  outlet to express a whole new way of looking at the world. The things she can create, the paintings she can produce are a beauty like no other. The foundation is hardly simple. Take an idea and expand on it to the max. Every creation has a story and the best part about it is, that that meaning of the artwork itself, for each one is truly different; because everyone comes up with their own ideas and thoughts of what it means to them. For me personally, when you tour an art gallery, you see people becoming bored, or claiming they know exactly what the work is all about. When I look at her work it tells a story; it invites you to look at it again and again.   Her work is beautiful, it is downright gorgeous. One of my brothers can ...

Tonite and Forward I bleed Red

Tonite I bleed Red Lately this world is concerned with all the drama and the pain, the shootings, the disasters of the world. The colors of our policemen, the colors of our race, the colors of our flag, the colors of the uniforms of men and women all over from the coast guard, national guard, corrections officers, the army, the marines, the navy, the police, the firemen, the emts, the doctors and nurses, the teachers, the airmen, and the pastors, and the priests who lay down their lives in service to us all.  As a young woman in this country what do I have to give? What could I do with all of this happening in the world. As I listened to my members of my family discuss their wills after my homecooked meal, the sun was still shining. So tonite and maybe going forward, I bleed a different color. I bleed a color of passion, maybe not so much of vengeance or fear, or one of hatred or grief. I bleed the color red, a power color in my world and in this life. What can I give? I was ...

Lakemont, stalemate with family, and that waiting for you

Image
Lakemont Pines is one of my favorite places to go to up north in the Sierras. I am lucky to have family aka grandpa now (grandma passed) who lives up there in a nice cabin. Swarming mosquitoes come mid afternoon and the bullfrogs at night, provide that back country feel, as well as the fishing everyone does at the lake itself. People take out paddle boards, paddle boats, inner tubes, rafts, noodles, etc to swim and frolick in the water. The water is green, but looks crystal green in the light. The stars are really beautiful at night when the lights are out, and when you sit on his deck, you can see bats flying all around. I love fourth of July up there. Although, sky fireworks are banned due to common forest fires, the ground ones they shoot off the dock are just as good. My grandpa sat with us on a beach lawn chair and watched them with us. He is doing well considering he is 85 and still has superb hearing! He loves to watch tv, and a lot of it. I am not too much of a fan, especially ...

Making a judgment call, ch ch ch changes, and what it means to be a friend

After college graduation, which seems a bit ago now, you learn there are things you cannot do anymore. You learn that decisions must be made. Like, should I go out tonight and drink even though I have been for the last few nights, or gee, I need to catch up on sleep, and 2am out at the club isn't really going to do it for me anymore. As you acquire more job experience or find your sleep schedule changing to where you have somewhere to be every morning and can't risk the whole night owl gamble anymore. Sooner or later you have a responsibility. You have a responsibility to your employer and the people  and or animals at home in whom you are taking care of.  Things sometimes slip under the table, we want a few drinks to let off steam and make ourselves forget what is going on or that things are stressful. In college I used to think it would actually fix my problems. Here's the thing. They will still be there in the morning as much as we try to hide them. As adults we hav...

Violence in the world, the appearance of having feelings, all we can do is love

The terrorist attack at the Orlando nightclub has left me saddened and speechless. This event now marks the biggest shooting in the U.S.; as if we needed a reminder. My heart breaks for those families and my prayers go out to them at this time. And for what? The LGBT community is on high alert and this hatred is so wrong. I shudder as I made the mistake of reading some of the kid’s text messages before they were gone forever. It’s hard to ignore on a slow day at work and its right there in front of your face reminding you of how sad this truly is. All the violence in this world day after day is exhausting. Although I do not agree with some of Obama’s views and may not support him as a president, it has got to be difficult to get up there to address a public in the aftermath of any tragedy. We sit there and we bash him as a president. A president has only so much time during his candidacy to address and accomplish certain things. A president can’t do all that he said he would d...

Innsbruck Austria and a lil ish of Zurich Switzerland

Austria Arrived by bus from Munich and was swift and easy. My hotel was outside the city, so I had to take taxis because the bus schedule turned out to be more complicated than I hoped. The hotel itself was awesome. Even though you had to pay for breakfast, the whole Mom and Pop owned feel was comforting, their staff welcoming and helpful. The view of the mountains from my bedroom, simply magical and breathtaking. I walked around old town with my suitcase taking pictures of the Golden Roof where I later saw a pole vaulting event. The hotel has old fashioned elevators take you take and open doors when you reach your floor with old fashioned keys and doors.  When you ate breakfast you can see the Alps and the hills from the windows and it is spectacular. I walked around what is called Walther Park. I bought a delicious sandwich for late lunch at ebb coffee shop and juice to go. I people watched and then went back to my hotel despite their bar and restaurant being closed. Hot a...
Munich The next and last stop with the tour group was munich. When you are on vacation you say im on holiday.  You can take the S bahn train and U bahn trains and trans and buses to inner city. I like to dine alone and ppl watch when I travel even if on tours. We saw the monkey tower which is the royal palace area for King Ludwig. Then w we went to pale yellow building in town center for wolfgang amadeus mozarts house. Hofbrauhaus was amazing, it is basically like disneyland for beer.  If you raise your hand and salute hitler anywhere in munich its an automatic arrest and 500 dollar fine! It is a Federal crime to deny the holocaust. I went on a bike tour and was the Butt babe, rear gunner, back lead for the group since I biked the best apparently....weird.  We went to the second largest/biggest bier garten in the world. I tried homemade Muesli - type of cereal and oats with yogurt mixture. The hotel Novatel was plush and comfortable.  Free cookies and fruit...

Prague

Image
Prague is a beautiful city! It is very crowded with tourists however, so if crowds are not your thing, do not go. The Charles Bridge is really something to see, and if you get to visit Prague Castle, the view and the changing of the guards will truly be a highlight. If not the clock tower and the clock changing is another marvel. There is a restaurant that serves beer on trains and has a train system thorough that brings them to your table! Be aware, though, Czechs do not like separate checks! Very challenging and frustrating with large groups. We went to Prague Castle and also stopped at the statue of a boy. The sunsets are incredible and the riviera surrounding, breathtaking. They have a swirl ice cream dessert, starts with a Trindek, I think. The chocolate goes at the bottom, then ice cream, then topping. The cone is sugared and cinnamon and they make it right in front of you. You cannot refuse lol. We went to a Klavakor lunch place and I had a good veggie grilled sandwich. We beer...
